Ok. Well, I know Kimberly (who has Pooh) is coming out here at some point, and she might be able to bring them to Houston if someone can meet her there immediately. I'm not sure her hubby would appreciate two extra chins. lol We are unsure as to the chins because the lady who has them has mentioned giving two to a coworker to 'ease our burden of travel'. So we are trying to get ahold of her to tell her NOT to give ANYONE away. I have offered her a small donation to reserve the chins, but have not heard from her. It's obviously distressing to everyone involved, we want to save them all. If we can all just try to breathe and relax and focus on getting the chins out, that would help me greatly. And I'm sure the chins will feel the good vibes. Once we can get them out, we are aiming for getting them out by Friday, we will be able to see who can go where. If it comes to it, I can hold them here for a few days, but not much longer as the chins who are coming here, plus the pair from OKC are the last chins I can currently admit. I have found foster homes and an adoptive home for 5 chins here. If I can find a foster home (an experienced foster home) for Princess and Adara, I will consider placing them. They have special needs, though, considering they occasionally have short 1-second seizures as a result of severe malnourishment over a long term. If I can find them a foster home, I can hold the trio for a little longer. When exactly are you planning on getting the chins? I am going to start a thread on two other forums begging for help with a railroad but I need to know a time frame.

We are working to get them out by Friday, and hopefully to meet on Saturday afternoon, provided we can get the chins out and everything goes well with the vet for Suzy's cat.
I think I'll know by tomorrow at this time how things are looking. I know we are going up on Saturday for the chins the drug dealer had, but I can go up after March 26 to get them if we can't meet up this Saturday for some reason.

Once again. I'm in Houston. I can help with transport. I'm available at anytime. I'm willing to head for San Antonio, bring them back here to over night them and then go as far as Baton Rouge. I can hold them a little longer if needed.

I remembered you saying that, so I was mainly looking for people in Louisiana. I was just stating that I would be willing to go all the way there in case. You being willing to help that stretch is crucial since I don't know anyone else around there, so once again, you are awesome!

I'm leaving for my trip to St. Joseph this evening so if someone can confirm whether or not I need to bring these three back with me, that would be great. I have a 4-hole carrier to bring them to CA but whoever picks them up from me would need to bring a carrier for their leg of the RR. Well I am still in, if this all happens, but I could only bring 1 small cage for transport. Would they all get along in a smallish cage? : John

John, I think that would be fine. At this point, we don't have anyone to bring the trio to Sumiko in St. Joseph.

I travelled here from Kentucky with a trio of pretty large girls in that exact cage and they did well. They came from a breeding situation, too, so I think the boys would do fine in that.
Ok to recap, because this is a long thread.

Ok to recap, because this is a long thread. Right now I will have to assume we are getting all the chins and the two single degus out today/tomorrow, and that we can get at least some of them on Saturday afternoon and drive them back down here. I admit I'm behind on phone calls due to a severe headcold (and plugged ears). I don't talk on the phone in the best of health due to some hearing problems. Ok so I see 11 chins in the pictures. Crysta for Comet and Fearless. (boys) Erin for Jazz, Fawkes and Rebel. (boys) gallegos for Roo and possibly Amy. (girls) Me for Beau and friend. (boys or boy/girl) If Amy is healthy and she gets along well with Roo, she can be adopted by gallegos (I will need a basic application) and then I will take a boy friend for Beau. If she isn't healthy, I'll take her here and we will figure something out. That's 9 chins with places. So Mickey and Raisinette need a place. Cookie needs a place. Katrina (mom degu) and her son need a place (or two). hm. How do I keep counting wrong? Cookie was in with Comet and Fearless, do you think that you could take him if he gets along with them still, Crysta? I wonder, if Amy is sick, do you think Raisinette and Amy would get along, and then Mickey and Beau? If Amy is not sick, do you think she and Roo would get along, and then Mickey and Beau? What about poor Raisinette? The two single degus will need a home/homes and then a pair of chins. Preferably experienced with health issues for the chins, and at least dedicated to some probably wild degus. Someone either who has a rescue or else signs a contract and will keep them even if they are never typical pet material. The way we approached this is that I emailed her and said I'd like to take in her chins and degus. I focused on Beau and a friend (Amy) and told her they'll be my pets, Wunderchins. She objected to having them travel too far, so that's why I emailed this way. I didn't say anything about where the chins would go, just that they'd be under my care. I hope no one is offended by that. lol I know these chins will all do well with their respective rescues, and then anyone who is adopted directly from their current situation will have to sign a Finally Home Adoption Contract, which specifies proper daily care, veterinary care when needed, no breeding, and that the chin(s)/degu(s) must be returned if something happens that makes caring for them unfeasible. I have a contract, I can gladly post it here if you guys want to add anything to it. Does that sound ok to everyone? I have a foster home for Tim the Enchanter, and one for Chinta, and then I am working on securing one for Adara & Princess. They are my only adoptable chins.

Hm. Does anyone know what happened to gallegos? I was in the process of contacting her vet through the new number and trying to get a hold of her references. I'll try to email her, but otherwise it looks like Roo and Raisinette will need a home.

obcsed I'm sorry I admit I forgot your offer. I will gladly be able to bring the boys here, then, if you can pick them up and get them to the next contact. If we can have a definite timeline for getting them to Florida, that'll be best. You can get them through Louisiana, then? That is like half the trip between here and Crysta and that will be a lifesaver!

Do we have any plans for the trio? I haven't heard from Sumiko yet, but I updated her on the happenings.

I can get them half way through LA. Baton Rouge is about as far as I can go. Note: I do not have a large car. I will need them in carriers or I can bring my own. No room for cages either.

No worries. I'm not expecting any cages, nor do I have room for an extra cage. It would just be broken down and placed in the shed. If they do come with cages I would prefer to leave it with Marne as she has way more chinchillas in her rescue than I do and could most likely use the cages way more than I could.

Also, since you said you don't have room for a cage, do you happen to have an extra cage at home? I want to make sure in case there is a small time span between when you pick them up and when I can find someone to meet you.

I'm thinking if you cut the middle wire out, you could put in some wood shelves. It's work, but we did it with a couple older Ware Manufacturing cages. This is in case someone needs cages somewhere. Do we know what brand the cages are? I don't know if they fold or how big they are. I think most of them are rusty, but are better than nothing. Obcsed.. Thank you so much for helping Crysta. These drives would be monster if we had to do them ourselves. John, can you send me your contact info in case someone can get these chins to Sumiko? I so love that you set up that cage!

um. I can send them in a cat carrier, like the kind from Walmart, but if you have a carrier, they should travel together and I will have fleece for them to help comfort them, and sticks, hay, food.
What about water bottles, guys? Have any of us heard anything about water bottles?

Ok, I've heard that Suzy can pick up the chins tomorrow night.
I'll get some travel cages ready, I don't think she will be able to meet Sumiko. I'll have to double check, though, once she is off work.
I'll be sewing them all hammocks and probably temp liners, I can't guarantee the sets will match, but I'll do my best. Anyone also want tunnel covers?
