Ok, great! They aren't together at the moment, but they were until Roo lost her mate. Someone might want to keep him, but if not, I was wondering if they could go together.
hm...

If you think Amy should stay with Beau even if they are just side by side maybe we should do that. I will be just as happy with Roo and Raisenette. Then Raisenette will have a home as well as Amy.

I'll be gone for a couple days, but will have my IPhone, so I can check in to see what's up.

Hi Mo, Sorry I've been running around like crazy but wanted to give you the answers their current owner sent me to your questions: "Their approximate ages: Katrina came as a rescue from the hurricane in New Orleans in 2005, I don’t think she was too old at the time.
If they've always been kept as singles or have attempts ever been made to be with other degus: Katrina was with a male until he died last fall. The current male is her son so I did not put him with her, but he has had younger male siblings with him until they were adopted. (somehow he never found his own home)
Is the male neutered: No
When was the last time they were at the vets and what is their general health status: They have never been to a vet, have always been healthy.
And lastly what are their temperments like and what sort of attention are the used to: Both are friendly. They both come over to you, they may play hard to catch but are great when you have them out. The male really loves his wheel and building nests out of his hay. If she wants to come here to see them, I can keep them." Yes, I am considering the degus, but feel like I need to learn a lot more about these unique critters before I feel comfortable committing to be their forever mommy. I've lived with a lot of different rodent-types and have dealt with a lot of different needs, but I'm starting to learn that degus are unique critters - in a class by themselves, maybe (sorta like chinnies!). Want to learn all I can so I can make an informed, good decision. Anyone with experience or good sources of information about degus? Please post or contact me! Thanks! Mo

Thanks for the info, Suzy! Does she mean that if I want to come see them, she wouldn't pass them onto Marne's care? How would that all work?

Mo No, she said if you're coming to Lincoln anyway you can meet her and the degus like you were asking and then see if you want to rescue them. If you need more time at some point we'd have to send the degus to one of Marne's rescues or I can foster them as an alternative until they find their forever home.

After much thought and research (including finding no vet's office around here who even knew what a degu WAS (typical response was something like, "Day-whuh???" ), to say nothing of trying to find an appropriate friend for either), I'm thinking it's not in the cards for me to take either one of the degus. I was very tempted, still kinda am, but I have to come back down to reality. I don't think this is the place for them. Thanks so much for all your help and info and best of luck in finding wonderful homes for both. Mo

I do appreciate your considering the degus and keeping them in your thoghts and prayers to find a wonderful forever home. It sounds like they have a lot of similarities to chins in their diet/lifestyle so hopefully one of the rescues will help care for them in the near future. I know the son (we must come up with a suitable name for him!) was raised by hand since he was born and will make someone an awesome pet. His mom Katrina is also used to being handled and around people so she should be great too.

Thank you gallegos!
I wanted to add, I've sent adoption applications, because I emailed the lady who has the chins and explained my rescue can take them in. So even though Roo and Raisinette would go to you instead of here, I have to have a paper trail that documents they were rescued, and then to secure a safe non-breeding future for them. Since my name is officially attatched, I want to be extra careful, like with anyone who comes through my doors.
So we have Beau and Amy, Comet and Fearless, Jazz and Fawkes and Rebel, Cookie, Roo and Raisinette all spoken for. That leaves Mickey and...Katrina and son (I'll just call him Benjamin).

Aw, Mickey, Mickey, Mickey. A grey chinnie and you KNOW he is adorable and big. I just adore standard chins, they're so gorgeous, and they're so appreciative of the homes they have. It's like they know grey isn't as "pretty" as other colors to the folks looking for their perfect pet.

Thanks for all that you do!

(For Crystal and you and these animals in general) I love you naming the young degu Benjamin Mickey is a sweet boy and is still young so very adoptable. Still wondering for Beau who a good companion might be? Wish it wasn't so risky to spay Amy so she could remain with him.. Perhaps in a cage nearby at least ? I'll have more time to post tonight. Gotta get back to work.

I so lied about staying caught up, lol!!! Mom and I had such a fun time scrapbooking, I never checked. Summer can take 5-7 chins in, so if any are left, we can RR them to CA.

Thanks Erin! Do you think you'll be able to keep the 3 older boys or will you have to RR them elsewhere? Does Summer have a website for her rescue? That's great she can take any remaining chins! How about Chintuition? (I couldn't find it). Have they helped degus before? I'm really looking forward to getting all the animals to their rescues and new loving, forever homes!

I was thinking of keeping them next to each other (with 12" between the cages). I know that helps with other chins who can't stay together. I'm trying to figure out any girls I might have who'd like a friend, I'm pretty sure I haven't got a boy here who would.
Why do I know the name Chintuition?
I've gotten a ton of fleece donated, so I'll start sewing hammocks in the next few days.

Chintuition is owned by Larry and Lisa Kader. Here are his email addresses.... lawrence_kader@yahoo.com west_michigananimalwishlist-owner@yahoogroups.com and here is what is replied to my post for the degus.....
"Erin lisa & i have rehomed and taken care of many degus, if you can get them to us i can find them furever homes"
I feel like I want the trio to come here so I can get them good to go. I really want to see the middle guy to actually be white. Summer does know her stuff though, so if we RR more than the trio to Southern California, I just don't have the room for another cage. It's totally up to you though. If they went straight to Summer's, it would be one less move. If I had some adoptions between now and then, they might stay.
