I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. A friend who is a Lincoln, Nebraska wrote me this recently and I'm worried about her and her chins:
"Hi Suzy, Well, the bottom has dropped out of my world, I have been left with $35 to my name and will have to sell the house. I am checking with chins people to see if anyone would like to have any of my chins before I take them to the Humane Society. If you, or anyone you know who would give them a good home would like them, let me know. Thanks."
I tried writing her back today to find out how many and more details (she was a pets only chin breeder in the past so these chins were hand raised by her and her husband.
I'd hate for them to end up at the Humane Society since they could then get adopted by whomever and usually people with young kids who don't understand how to care for these sweet chinchillas. I am considering taking in a few myself if necessary. I know they are all in excellent health.
Thanks for any help or advice!

Suzy
bless you for always loving the animals the link no longer works ..not that thats important really I know so many people trying to rehome their chinnies now that I am overwhelmed
I hope you can take a few if you think you can handle them and I dont know if we have any other people from Nebraska here
we had Sally ...the wood person... but she quit the board cause I wouldn't allow her to advertise and it was all over the place, in her banner, in her avatar and in her posts. She seemed awful nice ...but we all play by the rules here including me...and I pay for this place.
Let us know how you make out and let your friend know that we are hoping her lucks starts to turn around.
sending good thoughts
hugs Jamie

Thank you Jamie so very much. I just heard back from her and she gave me a list of the chins she needs help finding new homes for: "I have a cage of three older males (9-11 yrs)-2 mosaic and an ebony; another cage of 3 older males-two het. beige and a pink wht.; a beautiful grey female from an award winning rancher named Roo; a pair-ebony Beau and mosaic Amy(Beau has one front foot that was broken and didn't heal well but gets around fine); my youngest pair is from my first two lines of chins-mosaic Raisinette and grey Mickey. I also have two degus, an older female katrina and a 2-3 yr old son of hers. It breaks my heart, but I just can't continue to keep them." I think next weekend when the weather is safer for driving that I'll go visit her home and see these babies and who knows...my heart may lead me to rescue a few more. I am down to 5 chins currently and hadn't planned on taking any new ones in, but knowing how much she loves all her chins and how hard this is for her to have to give them up is really pulling at my heart. If you know of any rescues in the midwest where I could perhaps transport any chins to for help I'd be open to that also. That is too bad that the only other person you've had from Nebraska advertised on here. That makes no sense to me why anyone would do that. The rest of us are here 100% for the love of animals and it is such a blessing to have you and everyone here to share our love, friendship and advice! I know the chin's current mom will deeply appreciate your kind thoughts for her and her chins and degus. Hugs, Suzy

Is that like 13 chins? I can't take anyone right now, I'm having trouble finding anyone in the region who can take chins in, the nearest I've found is California and that's a rabbit rescue/sanctuary. Have you tried Jinna at Applewood? And of course Crysta.

We can always make room for more. If transportation can be arranged, I'll absorb as many as are left.

Right now I have two cage spaces left, so I could either do two pairs, or two singles. Just putting it out there in case. There are a few chins here who are ready to go if a good home is found, so I may have some additional cage space available (not promising).

Thank you so much Essentia!!
I will let her know and I am always willing to help with transportation. (Maybe someone could meet me halfway?) My employer's main office is in Miami so theoretically if I had to drive all the way to Florida myself I could work in the Miami office that week to recoop some costs and not have to use up all my vacation time.
I know someone in Minnesota (with Minnesota Sheltie Rescue) who has a private plane who loves animals, and he actually flew to Omaha when I had a Sheltie who needed rescuing and he flew the sweet dog to his new forever home in Minnesota for no cost! I can always inquire if he'd be able to help fly some chins.
I will be so happy if we can give these hand raised, wonderful chins a new, happy home! Knowing they are safe and cared for in a wonderful rescue like yours and our other friends' rescues here on the board would mean so much. I couldn't let any of these chins end up in the Humane Society since chins 9-11 years old would likely not be adopted and it would be so stressful on them too. I'm still trying to talk my husband into letting me take in at least 3 of the bonded, older males to give them a happy life. My 10 year old male chin named Chili might like having the company after losing his buddy Powder last December. I have a soft spot in my heart for older animals who are often the hardest to find new homes for. I want to give them as much love and care as I can.
Hugs,
Suzy

That would be awesome if they pilot would be willing to help. That would be too good to be true. There is a small aircraft airport just south of us. If that didn't work we could always try to put together a railroad. I'll keep my eye on this thread to see if I am needed in anyway.

Hi Crystal, Bless your heart! I would be sooo grateful if you could rescue any of these sweet chins! You are a much closer drive for me and after getting photos of them last night from the breeder they currently live with (I will post here in just a moment) they all look healthy but their cage environments are barren and depressing. They need to be helped very soon and I'm deeply grateful for any you could help. Hugs, Suzy

I got photos last night from the breeder who can no longer keep these sweet babies. I'd been to her home a few years ago (at the time I was considering adopting one or two of her chinny boys but ended up not doing so since hubby didn't want me to get more than our current 5. I could tell she was knowledgeable (I'd met her and her husband originally back in 2005 at a chinchilla show). She feeds quality food and hay and gives dust baths and lets them out for regular play time. When I was there I wasn't taken into their room where they are housed so I had no idea what their cages were like. They were brought out in the hallway and they ran and played there and I could see they were friendly and used to being around people. I'd also spoken to her vet where she took her chins and knew she got them care as needed. When I saw these pics I was honestly a bit shocked and saddened to see barren, somewhat rusty cages without any enrichment....toys, wooden or tile flooring, wheels, soft tunnels or hammocks. I guess I'm so used to those things with my chins (who have Chinchilla Mansion cages from Quality Cage)....it saddened me to see them in these desolate cages. She said they will all go with their cages and supplies but hopefully once they're at the wonderful rescues they'll have better cage environments to live in. Here are Amy (white mosaic) & Beau (he's the ebony with the previously broken front foot that didn't heal well but still gets around fine) They are around 6 or 7 years old: Here are males Comet & Fearless (white mosaics). Comet is 11 and Fearless is around 10: Here are males Jazz (his dad is Comet. He's a het. beige), Fawkes (pink white approx 8 years old) and Rebel (het. beige also around 8): Here are Mickey (grey) & Raisinette (mosaic). They had a litter recently I'm told and they're around 3-4 years old: (Maybe Mickey can be neutered if they're very bonded, or they can be paired with same sex friends in the future?) Here is Roo (grey originating from a championship rancher. She is around 7-8). She was sad after losing her mate and being alone, so she is recently sharing a cage with Cookie (ebony older male who was with Comet & Fearless....and I'm sure could go back to be with them): Here are 2 degus needing rescue for anyone who can help. She has Katrina and her son (he's about 2-3 now). She was rescued from the hurricane Katrina area. Here's her son: I am still checking to see about transportation. I'd love to find a rescue closer like in Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, etc. but otherwise am so very grateful to the rescues who've offered to help in Virginia & Florida. I will need help finding people to help with transportation along the way. The breeder said she can try to track down exact ages if needed and answer any other questions. Thanks again for anyone who can help give these 11 chins and 2 degus new, happier lives!! Hugs, Suzy

Suzy.......... these pictures are killing me they are on wire bottoms, there is a ramp made of wire, the cages are barren, small ..from these pictures I want to cry.
What's with people ...why do they have or breed if they are just gonna make one of the most amazing of all creatures sit there like a damn rock.
PM me and tell me how I can help... I cant have anymore pets here... we can set up railroads , we can go on other forums we must do something
Ill make a video if I have to I appreciate the post and the pictures and as I looked at each picture I couldnt help but think with my heart... and my heart was full of emotion.
Thanks for being you and for helping these animals that will someday find love, a wheel, dust, a place to frolic and to be vital and important to someone.
hugs Jamie

Suzy, I am not sure how long of a drive it is for you to get to me However I would be willing to take some in. I have a Female now and she is the only chin I have. I have actually been waiting for a female to come up at a rescue around here because I truly believe in rescueing them now since I rescued her. So I would like to put one with daisy. ( If they get along of course) Then I could take the group of them that are all living together. I could put them into another cage. Unfortunately I would not be able to help with the transportation to colorado springs. I could possibly meet you in denver or somewhere on the way from Nebraska but I know I couldn't make it all the way out there. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Suzy,
I live in Omaha (about 45 miles east of Lincoln). Jamie mentioned a "railroad" whereby people transport the chinnies some of the distance to an adopted home and pass the chinnies on to the next person in that "leg" of the railroad. From Omaha I can go... about 2 hours east to Des Moines, IA about 3 hours to Kansas City, Mo (or 2 hours to St. Joseph, MO) about 2 hours west to Grand Island, NE (right off I-80 and ideal for chinnies heading west to new homes). about 2 hours north to Sioux City, IA.
Let me know if I can be of assistance. I have notified Jamie via Facebook of this availability. It would have to be after 5:00 PM if done during the week.
