I posted that ^^ because I agree with you Crysta. I think he has malo and fatty liver. It will be a long fight and probably won't be a winning one, but I have to try, and I do think that at least his malo can be reversed. I learned a lot from Rafi (rip) and I can use it all to help Beau, but only if I can find a foster home.

If I can find someone to foster or adopt Princess and Adara or Tim the Enchanter, I can take him in here. But I really do need a foster. I'm running the rescue/sanctuary alone and I have over 40 chins right now counting my pets. But their homes will have to have experience and a vet fund, Princess and Adara rarely have half-second seizures as a result of starvation. I know Allie said she can take in someone, but I don't know how they would get there unless we rent her a car to drive. I can't send anyone here on a train. Marne you are amazing taking care of 40 chins! My rescued little boy named Penn has had some issues with seizures. I'd taken him to the exotic vet expert in Kansas City and all they found was an iron deficiency. Have you ever heard of that? I thought seizures were more commonly from calcium deficiency. The woman I got him from not only didn't know he was a boy (she called him "Delores")....but the day she gave him to me she gave me the awful bag of food she'd been giving him....the yucky stuff with seeds and treats and I was disgusted to see grain bugs crawling all inside of it! I can't believe she had the nerve to give me that garbage. I threw it out and he's been on Oxbow ever since (Mazuri gave him diarrhea). He had seizures initially while playing and after some iron supplementation and the vast improvement in his quality of diet and lifestyle he's been 99% better. I only saw him have one small episode of tremors in the last year. I don't know if my experience in anyway qualifies me to foster but I'm here if you ever need anything. It would be a blessing if you could take in Beau. You can only do what you can do though and I completely understand.

I lost a chin in 2005 to malo (^Gandalf^...he was Cocoa's best buddy) so I'm familiar with this sad condition. I'll inquire about kidney issues also.

Also if they are being railroad to MN I'll need to know how many so I can alert my vet about a group visit. Thanks for offering to help! I have worked with Minnesota Sheltie Rescue over the years. They had the pilot who volunteered to fly his plane to Omaha to pick up a rescue I had to fly him to his new forever home in Minnesota. (I still need to ask if he'd consider doing that with any of the chins if they need to go a long distance like to Florida for instance.) Does your rescue have a website? That's wonderful you rescue chins! Bless you for ALL you do!! I'll keep you posted.

I haven't read all the response yet, but I can hold 3 more in my rescue. I'm in MN but is willing to meet within a 3 hour drive. I know another rescue near me that may be able to take some in too. It's great you are so close by! I could definitely drive within 3 hours there.

Whereabouts in MN, alena? I can go maybe as far as Story City, IA to transfer to you if that's on your route.

He might not drool, it will just depend. But, could you ask if he has a smell on his breath?
Actually, if I could get a reference from you and your vet, or if you wouldn't mind filling out an application, I can see if Adara and Princess would be good with you. They're sisters a year apart in age and amazing chins. They're healthy other than their occasional seizures, and they do best in a one-level cage because of their experiences before coming here. They're friendly once they get to know you, and once you're holding them they're great snugglers. They get no grains at all, and that helps them.
Tim the Enchanter has no known issues at all, he's about 3 years old and quite the little character. He just got his first wheel a couple months ago and he loves it, he also loves to pick fights with neighbors. But he is as sweet as can be and he just loves attention. He doesn't care for other chins, so he has to stay a solo fella.
I am going to have to go to Oklahoma City in March, if someone could meet me. I'm picking up a pair who was tortured by a drug dealer there.

I got started on rescuing 4 months ago. I was the one who took in Hope, Grace and Faith. Happy to announce Hope and Faith made it through and now are doing much better. Hope and Grace was adopted out just yesterday to a very wonderful family. As for a website, I haven't got that up since Ive been so busy with chins, had 3 more surrenders in just 3 weeks ago. I'm in Minneapolis, MN, and I can drive 3 hours from my location to meet.

We can certainly use more rescues and I so appreciate all you're doing. Were there any particular chins or degus you were thinking of taking in? What info do you have on the other rescue in Minnesota you mentioned? Thanks again for your help!

I'm picking up a pair who was tortured by a drug dealer there. Bless your heart for rescuing those chins in Oklahoma! That is so sad they were tortured by a drug dealer. That makes my blood boil! I saw the photo of Adara and Princess on your site and they're beautiful! Tim the Enchanter sounds wonderful too! (My husband likes his name since he is also named Tim. LOL!) Is he a standard grey? Had you ever heard of iron deficiency causing seizures? I worry about my little Penn and am grateful he seems much better now on his healthier diet. If my husband will let me foster any of your babies I can definitely give references. I've done rescue work over the years and volunteer at our Humane Society, and my cat's vet knows me so well since I have dreamed of being a vet tech and she's taught me so many things over the years. With 5 cats, 3 of whom are seniors, I go to appointments pretty often. My chin's vet has known me since 2005 also. She comments all the time on how healthy mine are compared to others she sees and that I am doing everything right. (Too bad she was not there the day I had to take my Powder in for not eating. Her colleague was so ignorant with chins and cost him his life not giving him antibiotics.....it just upset me so much!) My exotics vet expert is 3 hours away in Kansas City. I've been to her a few times when Chloe had cancer and to diagnose Penn with his seizures and Cocoa a few years ago when I was worried she could have diabetes....thankfully she does not). If I can't get Beau to you soon enough I will see if I can take him in to foster in the meantime. With your advice and I can also take him to the exotics expert in K.C., I hope we can help him. I'm still waiting for his owner to answer my last email to her about him.

Furmomy, I'll post some of the girls picture tomorrow when I get a chance. I've been pretty busy processing a bunch of apple wood for the chins here. I'll just open a new thread so this one can focus on the chins in need of help. The other rescue is Summer's birds N Chinchillas. She no longer breeds, but is doing rescues. She is out of Brainard MN (might've spelled the city wrong). As far as which chins it doesn't matter. I just want to make sure they don't end up in the humain society. Bobbie's Chinchillas is in Eau Claire WI and I can get her involved too, she's only 2 1/2 hours from me. She does breeding, but is always willing to help on rescues. Don't worry she won't breed the chins. All 3 of us are able to handle pregnant chinchillas if there may be a situation where a female is pregnant. If they do come up to MN, I'll need a 1 week advance notice so I can arrange it with the vet to do a group visit. I am now in their system as a rescue so it helps with the discounts on vet bills lol. I don't know if I can take any degus, I'm not comfortable on taking them in since I don't have any nor have I done much research on them.

I haven't read the entire message. What chins are going where? I know some rescues have offered to take some in, so what chins are left that need homes? I am just dying over the freckles on the beige chins, especially on the one on the left. I'll ask Annie in San Diego if she can foster at all. I can take in chins on a temp basis, make sure all is well and send them off if there is someone to help foster. I think my husband would honestly kill me if I took in a duo or trio of chins and not have a plan, but I need to talk to him. What I want and I know everyone wants to avoid, is them going to the HS. They are great with cats and dogs, but I have experience with taking a chin in from them and medically, she was very bad off. It was Smokey and her story is on my website. Most HS do not have an exotics vet on staff and honestly know little about them. Anyways, let me know.

Forgot to say..... I am in San Diego, so we'd have to set up a RR to get them here. I know Sumiko and Leah live 2 hours north of Bakersfield (can't remember the town) and Summer lives in Bakersfield. I could do a drive there and I think Summer might be willing to help with a RR. I had asked her before with another possible RR. If I take any in, it would have to be the 3 boys as they would be downstairs and I have 2 of my males downstairs and don't want them to go female crazy, lol. I'm actually trying to become an all boys house. Oliver like Charlee and wags his tail and is going nuts, but he's a crazy boy anyway, lol.

I can transport from Oklahoma City to San Antonio. Maybe an hour or two west of here, if anyone can meet me for a railroad. I can't drive too far because Pierre is so young, and Nikolai just does not travel well.
I can take in Beau and a friend. Allie is adopting Clover and fostering a chin for me, and then Suzy might be able to foster Adara and Princess. So that makes room for Beau and his friend and the pair in Oklahoma City. For now they are on my waiting list.

I could drive to Wichita KS at least or if no one else can help I could go all the way to Oklahoma City. I do have family and friends in the Kansas City area who may be able to help with transportation to OKC as well.

Thank you Erin! Marne recommended you to me for taking in the beige trio of boys. I have nearly an all male group of chins in my own household. I have 4 boys and 1 girl at the moment. The female has her own chinny mansion to herself and the boys have to admire her from afar. LOL!
I agree we don't want them ending up at H.S. or just give out to anyone without experience or willingness to pay for vet care, chinny cage supplies, etc.
I'm hoping to get Marne and the former breeder in touch this week sometime so we can get the ball rolling and make plans. I'm so looking forward to helping these babies!
