Thought I'll update on who can help in the upper Midwest. I already got a confirmation from: -Bobbie w/Bobbie chinchillas (Eau Claire, WI) - she has 3 open cages, also can take the 2 degus. I'll be able to bring them to her. -Kari with Summer's Chinchillas (Brainerd, MN)- she is able to take as many that is needing her help, she is also able to take the 2 degus. A friend of hers has degus and can help out on knowledgre. -Myself - I can only take 3 more chins. I have plenty of cages and already picked up a FN 142 today. Jean, that's awesome you're donating. Thank you as always! I'm coordinating with Marne who has been in touch directly with the former breeder in Lincoln. Molpie in Colorado is considering adopting the degus but if she can't take them we will need to find a rescue for them. I appreciate this info and will let Marne know too and we'll try to come up with a plan soon on which animals to go where. How do you like the new FN 142 by the way?

Please let me know if you need any chins to come out west. My friend Leah can take in a pair or possibly the trio. I still don't know who's taking who. Marne wanted Beau and his mate and then Crysta wants a pair. Do the degus still need a home? Maybe we can make a list, like.... Crysta - 1pair Marne -Beau and mate Erin - possibly 3 boys (Leah) Then lets see where they are. I'm gonna contect Summer to see if she knows about degus and also see if she has room. I know Rhonda lives in Las Vegas and may be able to help RR.

I just sent Summer a message to see if she had room and also, if she has experience with degus. She's always offered to do RR. Has anyone contacted Sumiko? She' up by Leah. Maybe we can do a chip in and if someone want's to scoop them up and bring them out west. If we decide to RR them, I can contact CW Dawn as she works rescues and have some of her own. She may be a person in a RR. Maybe to Texas then south to Arizona and then I could meet Dawn and take them in my case and get then to Leah, Summer and me, if need be. Mya may also be someone to try. She can't take in any, but she may do a RR for us. Any thoughts?

I love the fn cages. All the chins here besides Faith is in a fn. It makes it so much easier to interact with them and the space is amazing.

I just heard from Summer and she can take 5-7 chins in. Crysta is taking her 2 and Marne is taking her 2. Other than that I have no idea where the others are going. Summer now lives in Nipomo by Pismo Beach, CA.
If someone can update on if all the others have homes. Both Summer and Mya don't have any experience with degus, but if we can RR the last of the chins to CA, we have them all homed!
I LOVE all my FN's! I have a Critter Nation downstairs with my 2 spoiled boy Emmitt and Marley. Upstairs I have six, 3 tier Ferret Nations. They are sooooooo easy to clean! Abigail and her babies are in a QC and they are stacked on a bigger QC with the other 3 boys that came with Abigail. A family of six, LOL! I am loving my chin room right now. ;D
I will be leaving tomorrow morning for the Orange County scrapbook expo and will be home on Sunday. I will have my computer and my IPhone to keep track of what's going on though. Please let me know if the degus still need a home and I can check around.

Crysta, I LOVE the older chins! My oldest is Gonzo who is around 15 and she just cracks me up. She is so cranky at times and then she'll tilt her head for scritches and is a sweetheart.

Aren't older chins wonderful? My 10 year old Chili is my sweetheart. He is so adorable running like the wind on his favorite wheel and he loves to be cuddled. Suzy

I was at work and now can finally relax and answer them. I am so very grateful for your help and for getting also in touch with Summer to help more babies. I'm looking forward to arranging the RR so they can get to their new homes asap. The degus do need help still. Their current owner said they're easy to care for....eating pellets and hay like the chins do. The young male loves to run on his wheel and make nests with his hay. The female (his mother) who is in a separate cage was with a mate until he died this past year. Now she is a single. I have 4 QC Chinchilla Mansions currently but I'm so impressed by the FN photos I've seen on this board and am glad to hear you love them and that they're easy to clean too. The only thing I don't like about my QC's is the side's have the crease where the cage folds when it's shipped and when I put the Chin Spin on the side it has a little movement. The FN looks a bit more sturdy and flat on each side from the photos I've seen. Do you think they are best? I want to get a 5th large cage for my youngest beige chin BB and am debating about FN this time. Any suggestions are appreciated. Where does everyone buy theirs....through their website? Do you have photos of yours you could share? Thanks again for all your help! Suzy

Ok so I see 11 chins in the pictures.
Crysta for Comet and Fearless. (boys) Erin for Jazz, Fawkes and Rebel. (boys) gallegos for Roo and possibly Amy. (girls) Me for Beau and friend. (boys or boy/girl)
If Amy is healthy and she gets along well with Roo, she can be adopted by gallegos (I will need a basic application) and then I will take a boy friend for Beau. If she isn't healthy, I'll take her here and we will figure something out.
That's 9 chins with places.
So Mickey and Raisinette need a place. Cookie needs a place. Katrina (mom degu) and her son need a place (or two).
hm. How do I keep counting wrong?
Cookie was in with Comet and Fearless, do you think that you could take him if he gets along with them still, Crysta?
I wonder, if Amy is sick, do you think Raisinette and Amy would get along, and then Mickey and Beau? If Amy is not sick, do you think she and Roo would get along, and then Mickey and Beau? What about poor Raisinette?
The two single degus will need a home/homes and then a pair of chins. Preferably experienced with health issues for the chins, and at least dedicated to some probably wild degus. Someone either who has a rescue or else signs a contract and will keep them even if they are never typical pet material.
The way we approached this is that I emailed her and said I'd like to take in her chins and degus. I focused on Beau and a friend (Amy) and told her they'll be my pets, Wunderchins. She objected to having them travel too far, so that's why I emailed this way. I didn't say anything about where the chins would go, just that they'd be under my care. I hope no one is offended by that. lol I know these chins will all do well with their respective rescues, and then anyone who is adopted directly from their current situation will have to sign a Finally Home Adoption Contract, which specifies proper daily care, veterinary care when needed, no breeding, and that the chin(s)/degu(s) must be returned if something happens that makes caring for them unfeasible. I have a contract, I can gladly post it here if you guys want to add anything to it.
Does that sound ok to everyone?
I have a foster home for Tim the Enchanter, and one for Chinta, and then I am working on securing one for Adara & Princess. They are my only adoptable chins.

How about this, do you think Roo and Raisinette would get along?
I'm concerned about Amy's health. She and Beau had one kit quite some time ago and have not had any since. That doesn't sound right to me, and I know what happened to Chrystal (rip) who came here after her mate died. They were together for years and never had babies, and she ended up dying from cancer and pyometra. So I'm just worried at the moment. I'm also concerned, because if they truly are as bonded as their current owner states, it could be enough to tip the scales against Beau's chances of recovery if they are split up. If that makes sense. I could keep them side-by-side here so they could still see each other and visit.

OH! lol We posted at the same time.
I can drive people from Oklahoma City to San Antonio. I can go up to 2 hours either west or east of here, but not both and no more than that because my 1 year old can't handle the drive, and going to OKC and back is going to be hard enough for him. I'll have to evaluate my van space, too. lol I might just drive up with two kids, I'll have to see when I can go up, I'm aiming for the first week of March.
But beyond that, I have had terrible luck with railroads. I used Operation Roger to get 6 chins here from Kentucky, because it is like a dead zone between LA and GA and then also between here and California. I'm more than happy to meet people with the chins. I can use my carriers, but I can't pass them along. Maybe a ChipIn to buy them carriers? Walmart has cat ones for a great price.
I love my FNs, much more than any other cage here. I have Quality, Martins, Superpet, etc. The cat 'playpen' cage. None of them are as sturdy as the FNs (I have the 143s, which bolt), nor as easy to clean or arrange.

Yes, I am considering the degus, but feel like I need to learn a lot more about these unique critters before I feel comfortable committing to be their forever mommy. I've lived with a lot of different rodent-types and have dealt with a lot of different needs, but I'm starting to learn that degus are unique critters - in a class by themselves, maybe (sorta like chinnies!). Want to learn all I can so I can make an informed, good decision. Anyone with experience or good sources of information about degus? Please post or contact me! Thanks! Mo

Yes Marne, if they get along I can take Cookie as well. I didn't realize they were all together.

Granted...I do not have have any experience in chinchillas with health issues (if I did I would be helping by taking one or two in) but I am helping by taking in Tim and Taking another foster to someone in IL, we are making room here at Marne's!
I wish everyone great health, and people wise everyone safe travels. If there is anything I can do I am driving a Rent-A-Car back to IL from Texas. Sometime after March 9th.
