question for you... Roxie has always been picky about wood but How do you know if the wood is baked right (underbaked, overbaked).... I figured your boys liked it baked so you would know best... We read your directions but weren't really sure... and my oven is screwy so yea never know... well the main thing is you dont burn them, they wont eat bark that is overbrowned. I know you said Jenny that Roxie only eats the bark..thats pretty much what it looks like everywhere but they are chewing down on the sticks...its doing it's job. You cant get the bark off without some serious tooth action. I think with the wood you have there...a nice 30 minutes at 375 should do the trick. I must say that every single person that has written me after they received the wood...says that their chinchillas eat it like crazy without the baking. This wood is different than alot around cause it was cured for 6 months, not processed... my chinnies go crazy over them. hugga you , and the musician, and of course Roxie-poo Jamie

Ou. You know, when I bake wood, I take it out when the bark looks like the skin on fingers that have been in water too long. That wrinkled look. I boil it first, then put it in the oven, so I don't know if it does that because it gets water-logged first or not.
I am hopeful of getting some of this wood, too. Apple wood is a huge hit here, and it is hard to get a hold of!

eta: Do you know approximately how many sticks are in a pound? And do you ship via USPS? I'm trying to plot next month's wood purchases, and I ask only because with the number of chins we have here, I want to make sure I order enough for everyone to have a few. Do you think some of them are big enough to drill to hang on wire?

yep.. one of the reasons I got involved was cause I couldnt find good wood. There were a few vendors but they all told me the tree had been through pesticides etc. Though my chinnies like the smaller wood, these vendors could only provide little twigs, I was buying more in weight cause they werent chewing more than 3 seconds and they were gone.
Yes I have 7 pounds left and i couldnt say how many sticks are in these measured amounts as the size of the sticks arent uniform.
Just let me know..and I will help you out

LOL Marne me too on the Like button I haven't been able to get a video of Ms Venus enjoying her Lucky Logs yet Jamie but she is having a great time chewing the dickens out of them Upon checking my mailbox I found the flower salad and cookies had arrived from Spoiled Rotten Chinchillas so I woke Venus up and she was having a party with that too. Now to try to get that order to work with you Marne. There was some great supplies and treats you had listed that I know she'll love.

you know Ali it truly makes me happy I know that for a long time since Helen has a discount pet supply company I was gonna get involved in selling stuff but I have a full time career,.
I just felt like I wanted to be able to provide people with stuff either better than the rest, or in short supply
it REALLY makes me happy to know Venus is enjoying the Lucky Logs and Marne sent me some of the coolest pics of her babies enjoying I would like to ask her permission to post or...maybe its best if Marne posts them so I dont look like Im promoting myself , the wood and all the rest
yes (2 minutes has now passed)..hear the jeapordy theme in my head
yes marne would be the better person to post those pics
I rest my case LOL

I do a website for a local apple grower and can get all the tree trimmings I want but they spray and it isn't what I want my little girl chewing on.

interesting Alison
There are 2 big orchards by my house (within 20 miles) one orchard thought I was nuts asking to buy their trimmings and the other said ..yes they spray but its safe
the people that I get the wood from drive 60 miles to the orchard that is completely organic and all the rest. I tested the wood just to make sure they werent selling me a load of bull and it was clean.
My post office sees me making packages up there and they all have my music CD's...they actually asked me if I cut down trees as a bonus for my music customers
ha ha makes sense to me
buy a CD and Ill cut down a tree HA ha
sometimes I have to wonder what people have in their heads they say insane things
well not everyone can be as sane as the members of Lucky's Place
heeeeeeeee heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
huggies jamie

Yes there is some very odd stuff that comes out of peoples mouths. I'm going to drop your CD off at the local shelter to see if they are interested in using it for fund raising. Not sure when the legs will get me there but that's the plan

lol Jamie. Bow to the chin pressure! lol You know it's not the people, it's their chins who are demanding nothing but the best! The chins here, they chew up the entire stick, and I can honestly say they don't do that with any other kind of wood.
