Well I just wrote a response to you and lost it, so here is the abbreviated version, lol.
I have no idea who this woman is and I have been in rescue for years and know the rescues in the Northeast part of the country (unless someone is brand new). The fact that she is looking for homes on CL for these chins is not good. CL is the worse place to try to find a home for a rescue.
Her defensive attitude is strange and how she speaks saying her 'agency' and 'finders fee' and how she 'does not pay for chins' is unusual. For me she would be a red flag to watch out for.
Don't keep going back and forth with her or it will never end. You will only get more frustrated.
Take this as a lesson learned and move on and concentrate on the chins and what you think you want to do in the future.

Ok, so I need to correct myself here (just for the record). I misunderstood Deidre's last post. The terminology you used is a little unusual from what I am used to, but people have their own way of speaking. Your intentions to start a rescue seems to be sincere, but a little overpowering. I understand how it could be misunderstood by the woman on CL. She could have just sent you a private email asking you not to contact her again rather than making a public show of it, that was unnecessary on her part. One big thing with rescue.......you have to be super patient with people. As much as you may want to lecture them, you have to keep things brief and polite. With the response you sent her, now there is no chance at all that she would contact you about the chins. Either way I would suggest you not contact her again, even if she response to you (as hard as that will be). Words can get out of control very easily and you don't want a bad reputation before you even start a rescue. Hang in there Dee and take more time to think about things and get a plan together . There is no rush. Sometimes when people start a rescue out of enthusiasm is when things don't work out or last long. I knew I wanted to start a rescue two years before I actually did and took in my first rescued chin.

Ou, make sure you have a cell just for the rescuing purposes, addresses can be found through phone numbers. We had to get one (prepaid) for that reason, because our number and address were unlisted at the time for safety purposes.
That lady sounds like some I've dealt with, only, fortunately, they didn't have my name. lol Some people get very offended, for some reason. I don't know why, I assumed it was because they felt guilty that a stranger loved their pets more than they did.
I think I'd not post any more to this person, but report them directly to CL if they keep posting about you. CL has access to the email and other things, and they can intervene to stop the person.
I can't really think of anything else. I can't honestly remember, but I don't think we have ever paid for any of the chins (aside from the original 6 from Kansas). We've paid other rescuers for gas to drive chins down from other states sometimes, but of the chins people asked to surrender to us, we haven't paid.
Some people say no to surrendering their chins, because a lot of the time they just want the money, and sometimes there is nothing you can do. But, for people who say no, there are others who will gladly take you up on the offer. Usually, my first email (if it is a chin from CL) is "hey, I saw your ad. My husband and I have a chinchilla rescue. We would gladly take your chin in and find him/her a safe permanent home. Is s/he still available?" Then I sign it Marne and put a link to the rescue site. Then, I post an ad with about 3 sentences describing our rescue and what we do, and I offer professional references upon request. People usually find the ad and contact us, or they find us on different animal rescue sites. If they ask me anything, I answer them if I don't think it will jeopardize us. I don't give out our home number or our address.
I only go to CL to post an ad that says we have room to take in surrenders (when we have room, which we don't right now), or to look for used Ferret Nations. I put a ban on myself looking for ads about chinchillas about 2 years ago, because it was too heartbreaking to me.
Andrea is right about having documents for people to sign for surrenders and for adoptions. If you don't have signed documents to prove the surrender was willing, you can end up with a lot of trouble. People will claim you stole their chin(s), that you breed them, that you do all kinds of things to them. Also, we take a picture (or two) on the day the chin(s) arrive so that if they are in rough shape, we can prove they came to us in that condition. That way, people can't try to claim we abuse chins. There are a lot of nuts out there, when you get into rescuing, they come out of the woodwork like a bunch of termites.

Yes, I just saw your post under introducing yourself and my heart started to flutter, lol.
I am interested in details about your rescue. How long have you been doing rescue? How many chins have you rescued? How long have you lived with chins? How much space do you have?
If you would rather pm me this info, that is fine.

Is Chester County anywhere near you?
I have been contacted by the SPCA there that has had a female chin for months and they would really like to see her in a more chin knowledgeable/friendly atmosphere.
The woman who has contacted me is Kaity. If you are interested in getting her, please let me know asap.
Thanks

So is that a yes or no, LOL? You have to understand, for me, that is pretty much normal for picking up a rescue a lot of the time. Here is a link to her on the SPCA Petfinder page in case anyone can help her. www.petfinder.com/petdetail/18980466Crap, I shouldn't have gone on their Petfinder page, now I want to adopt the Flemish Giant bunny they have.

That's great Josh. Thank you for helping. No chin should have to stay at a public shelter for months.
I will let you know about the other info.
