I do not know the full details of this but wanted to share with everyone because personally, I'll be following this group a few times a day to check for updates on all of their progress. Information from the Facebook Page: There are 53 chinchillas in Pennsylvania who have been neglected and are in a desperate situation. 17 of them were rescued 1/31, but there are more still suffering. My plan is to railroad them to new owners who will give them the TLC they need. Some will come to SydChilla Shelter in Maine, but many will be placed with volunteers in NY, CT, MA, and NH. All chins have been picked up now and are being cared for. A few of them didn't make it, and I think one or 2 had to be PTS. I won't post the photos here (as they aren't mine to share)but there are photos on the facebook page of each one, if anyone would like to look. They are heartbreaking photos. Makes me want to hold all of mine at one time (not possible, but I want too) and cuddle them forever. Link to Facebook Page www.facebook.com/groups/RescueRailroad/Disclaimer: Photos may be disturbing to some. Also, once these babies are well again and able to be adopted out, they will need homes so if anyone is looking for a chin anytime soon, you might consider one of these guys. Edit: Just wanted to say that I have gotten permission from those involved to share their photos here for those who don't use facebook or facebook groups. I'll slowly start moving some of that info over.

Good to see the post here too. I read about that chin, Jamie. I believe the one who is rescuing it is on her way now to get it? Thankfully it's going to good hands!

If anyone is interested helping these furbabies out, here is the link... fundrazr.com/campaigns/bh381/ab/f2mAbdAlso, I wanted to say, all females are on pregnancy watch so the number of chins are expected to go up as time goes on. There are a few people willing to help with railroads for those willing to adopt but can't drive that far. I saw one railroad offer from MN to CT middle to end of May. I certainly wish I had more room here. #27, which I kind of helped in naming Zeke(I suggested and his rescuer, James, decided that name fit) has his little paws around my heart. He now has a buddy too. Jamie and Mandy, I am glad the chin in Utah was able to be helped. 1 more little life saved.

I've been following this story and my heart aches for those chinchillas. I don't think I've ever seen neglected chins in that bad of shape. Its heartbreaking Thank goodness there are good people in the world to help to help out Jodi

I agree it is very heartbreaking.
I wish I had the room and time (I told myself no more furkids, I'm devoting my time to the ones I have) I'd adopt Zeke and his cagemate (now named Demetri). But I think they'll find an awesome home.
I love the support the chin world has in situations like this. It's amazing.

I was reading through the updates on the facebook page and read that #52 had 34 grams of mats and fur removed after grooming. Poor little guy. That's a lot of matted fur to be running around with. I bet he feel so much better now.
