We now have some other friends who do great amazing rescue work,, like K9rescue and of course our wonderful Crysta (spoiled rotten chinchillas)
I would like to ask the folks who run rescues to please post in this thread to let people know more about you
we arent just a rescue friendly forum we support and love to the deepest parts of us people who work and run rescues as well as the people that adopt.
I dont want my original post in this thread to make other members that joined after feel left out and Im not sure I can keep modifying my post....
so rescue people please post proudly in this thread or start your own thread in the rescue board.
If you are a member no permission is needed you are IMPORTANT

Oh I'm so glad to see rescues in Florida! I was so upset when Pet Supermarket started carrying chins. I did my best to educate the managers and to treat the chins when they'd get too hot, but we ended up moving away because the heat there was making me very sick. I've always worried about the chins there. That said, my husband and I run a rescue and sanctuary. It's Finally Home Chins (the official name, which I honestly find to be too long to write out most of the time, but which does appear on my tax id and my 501(c)3 application, is Finally Home Chinchillas Rescue & Sanctuary). We're here: www.finallyhomechinchillas.com and you can see about our pets, our sanctuary residents and any adoptable chins there. I don't think there is anything offensive there, unless you find random non-religious Jewish references to be offensive. lol We ended up opening our sanctuary part before our rescue part, because rescues were being filled with un-adoptable chins and needed help. So we put out a call to rescues that if they had any chins they considered to be "problem" chins with behavioral and/or health issues--any kind of issue--we would be able to start taking them in. We started helping in Ohio but have ended up getting chins from rescues in Maryland, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, Tennessee, Kansas and Kentucky. So to start with, our longest sanctuary residents were actually chosen by other rescuers. We did get so many requests for transfers into our sanctuary that we had to put off officially opening our rescue half until a later time. We still take in owner-surrenders, and if those chins have no issues, we work to find them a home, or if they have minor issues, like socialization-type things, we look for a foster home for them until they are the kind of friendly, outgoing chinnie most people want to adopt. I'm not sure what else to say. lol If I left anything out, just ask! lol

Pet Supermarket no longer carries chinchillas, at least the ones within a 2 hour radius to me don't (which is definitely a good thing). All the pet stores have my number though, and they definitely use it. I take in more than just chinchillas, just my main focus is the chinchilla. Pet Supermarket has called me on at least 5 cavies, 10 baby bunnies, kittens, etc. I sometimes think they know my number by heart. lol

I would really like to have an animal rescue, focusing on dogs mainly, but ANY animal!!!! But, it doesn't look like that is the plan for my life, so I will just do it in as many little ways as I can!!!! I also like buying from rescues. I know it is not the same...but it helps!!!!!

Oh that's wonderful news! I was so disappointed when I walked in to find them there all sickly and too hot. ugh! I got 2 rabbits from there, one who was half-starved, covered in mats and was going to be sold as snake food because it was there too long (and they say they don't do it, but they do, we were there when they were shaving a guinea pig for a guy to give his snake!), and the other who was bought, then abused horribly, then brought back to the store. No one wanted her, so I got her. It just made me so sick, she was on baytril for a year for so many infections and problems, covered in scabs, cried all the time. I never heard a rabbit cry the way she did. They're both happy and healthy now, but dang, the condition they were in. So I am especially grateful that they aren't selling chins anymore. I'm glad they have your number, too! It's always good to educate whenever possible, particularly when people are willing to accept your help. Oh, every little bit helps, that's for sure! We don't have many sales anymore due to the economy, but every little bit helps. And I'm sure that is the same for every store out there that helps rescues. And just welcoming animals into your home is more than enough help. There are not enough good, safe homes anymore.
