I feel just sick reading of those poor hamsters and also the story of the chin in a bird cage given cat food to eat. I could do terrible things to those people and not feel bad about it. Do pass on that phone number - I have a phone plan and a Canadian number and am awake at strange times of day Jamie and the Chin Intelligence Agency lol

For sick people like this, you have to be really passive. Act innocent so they won't think they will get into trouble, but YOU are willing to do the work and just want to look outside their home to see if any hamsters survived. If they think you want to inspect their home or yell at them or report them, you will never get the address. You have to have an attitude of; what the heck, why not let me look to try to find survivors, I won't even bother you. The whole situation is very, very sad. I totally agree with you Andrea! Thank you.
There are times when you just have to bite your tongue and not say anything for the sake of the animals.

I agree completely with this and your previous statement about dealing with her with kid gloves. I called her again and left another voice mail. I was just as sweet on this one as I was on the last one and just asked if she minded if I came over to look for the hamsters. Still haven't gotten a response back.

I totally agree on the having to bite your tongue for the sake of the animals. Until you can find another way you have to do what you have to do. Yes that's a piglet. I was at the fall fair and there was Momma and her litter. The fellow was showing us how to pick up a piglet and of course I had to cuddle it.

I agree with you, too, Andrea. That's one of the hardest parts for me, is that even when I very badly want justice served, I have to bite my tongue for the sake of the chins. There are a few people I wish I could have called the police on (the police in Kentucky always do animal welfare checks before animal control goes out, because they get so many calls). I try to comfort myself that at least they are here now, and safe. Hopefully in their next lives (or even this one) those cruel people will get their comeuppance.
I'm glad I could get that out. It gets so frustrating to me, sometimes I feel so impotent when I can't involve the police or animal welfare. I am not the kind of person that automatically involves the authorities if another way is possible, but there are some cases when clearly, the authorities are exactly who should be involved. It's just, then it will get out that I call the authorities, and people won't be as likely to surrender their chins to a safe place.
But, at least the chins who are here, are safe now.
I don't know if that is any comfort. I know how awful it feels to be stuck like this, in a situation that is similar. Such a nightmare. Sometimes I think it must be like how Oskar Schindler must have felt, about how he did not save enough people.

I keep trying to post something here, but I just can't get it into the right words. Some days I think the only thing I can do is cry.

Trust me when I say I know your pain. I had called this woman 5 times and she never would pick up my call. This was even calling from different phone #'s, so I think she was screening all her calls.

I've just caught up on this tread. Wow Crysta (and everyone else), I certainly know how you feel. The first hamsters I took in, a group of 5 Chinese hams, were left out side next to a dumpster by a church in their tiny cage with no food or water... in July.
As others have said, it is so important of us who take in these babies to keep our tongues in check when we are conversing with this type of person. The worst thing for the animal is for us to piss that person off and for them to refuse us possession of the animal.
When Marty chinchilla was being dropped off, my vice chair was there helping me clean. I started to get a little emotional about the shape she was in and Emily noticed and started talking to them about the other animals in the shelter. She essentially cut me off and I am so thankful that she was there.
I think this is such a good thread. We all see situations like this all to often, and if we hold it in it will only bring our spirits and moral down. We need to stay positive for the critters but we all also need to vent in order to stay positive.
Hugs Jinna

I just have to say that I think it is wrong to split up a pair of bonded chins, who were only ever apart for several months in their entire 9-year lives. And not only that, but I think it is even worse to do it, when you KNOW what you are doing, and what you are going to put the chins through, JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T LIKE THE ONE BECAUSE IT IS GREY.

thats horrible, when i get chins i wanna get colours other than grey but if a pair were already bonded and one happened to be grey i could never split them that is just stupid and cruel, anyone who would do this shouldn't be allowed to have any chins coz they are clearly not responsible enough

Once again, we need a stupid heartless people forum.

Why didn't she seperate them!!!!!!!! Oh...that is so sad that she cared so little! Imagine what the rest of her life is like. Each one of those hammies could have been saved...this is just horrid. I can't imagine just throwing out my chinnies or any of my pets...I would not even think of throwin Nigel out...and he COULD surrive MUCH better than hammies. Man...those poor little hamsters!!!!!! I wish there was something to do. It was not your fault...you called as soon as you could! I can't think why some people treat animals as if they were not alive at all....so sad.

i guesse some plp just think because an animal can't tell someone its bein abused then it doesn't matter wot u do to it. its stupid that if a guy abuses his dog and that dog then attacks a kid they say its the dogs fault or its coz of wot breed it is, and theres no mention of this sick person that caused it all n the dog gets put to sleep. the laws should be much stricter especially over here. and with hamsters i guesse its even harder to spot
