My rescue chin Raisinette had two baby kits this morning!!! I missed it (I was asleep from being so tired for the long drive yesterday delivering the degus) but once I saw she'd given birth I rushed her and the babies upstairs to a baby safe cage for just herself (not letting her stay any longer with Mickey since I don't want to risk any "breed back"). She's still bleeding a bit and I'm nervous. A vet from the clinic is going to call me soon as I called to ask for help and advice. I don't know how to tell what's normal and what would indicate an immediate vet visit.
I'll get some photos soon. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers and any advice.

Do you guys still like me updating on the rescues or would you rather I didn't? I know you don't want posts on breeding chins and Raisinette was not a breeding chin. She got pregnant at her prior owner's house prior to my rescuing her and fostering her. Just checking since no one replied to this (and virtually no one replies to my other rescue updates, but I was glad to get replies to the news of the degus being sent to Apple Wood) I was pretty excited for mom and her babies today. She won't have to worry about ever getting pregnant again as I don't keep mixed pairs. Let me know if you want any more updates. Thanks!

I love to hear the updates on the rescues! I think it is a wonderful thing you have done with them. They where in such horrible conditions and now they are happy and healthy. Thank you so much for all you do. I would like to keep hearing updates. I am personally very glad to hear how they are doing.

Yes, of course updates on a rescues progress is always appreciated. You did not breed this chin and she is a rescue, so I don't believe Jamie is referring to this type of situation when he says the subject of breeding is not allowed (correct me Jamie if I am wrong). Those kits she was carrying are rescues too and you most likely saved her from getting pregnant again if she had been left in her previous home. Those are great weights by the way. Hope mom and kits are doing well today

Oh, I'm sorry for late reply! There seems to be a problem with proboards, so that many people have problems in the moment to log in or to see all posts - so this could also be a reason for less answers. Well, I guess people here are also always a bit uncertain when it is about baby talk. But at the end the rule is just to not post anything that could motivate home breeding - but of course we want to hear updates from a rescue progress, like Andrea said it!!!! Well, I anyway already wrote you on facebook - but congrats to the Mommy here again!! I'm glad the Babies are happy and healthy and have a good weight!! Did you already contact your vet meanwhile for this question, if this still bleeding is normal? I always don't like it, when I have no answers to those important questions, so I would like to learn more about, what vets have to say in those situations. Do you have actually an own rescue, or help a special rescue? Don't you want a banner? *lol* When I make banners I would be more sure about, who are your own pets, or your own pets you adopted from a rescue or rescues Chins you care for! *lol* I mix those infos sometimes, since we have so many rescuers here. Hugs Ilka

I love you my friend Jamie

Thank you so much Crystal, Andrea, Ilka, Jamie, and Greys (welcome to our board btw!) I really appreciate your comments and reassurance that they are going to be okay. Tonight the male is now 79 grams and the female is 89 grams. Their daddy Mickey got to visit the babies tonight and they squeeked (sp?) when they sniffed noses with him. LOL! The vet who phoned me the day she gave birth a week ago assured me she should be okay as long as the bleeding stopped. Thank heavens it did. I checked her over the next day just to be sure. She is eating well and taking good care of the babies. I now have all the rescued females separated from their male partners to prevent any future pregnancies. I know they're sad but I let them be in cages next to their former partners so they have a little less stress. I give them lots of daily cuddles and playtime. It's amazing how well they've done after 2 months of fostering. Still working on finding transport to a few excellent rescues I have in mind. LOL Ilka....I will have to send you my own pet chins' names/pics so you can make me a banner. That would be awesome!! I am not a rescue but am a foster mom helping out these chins since their former mom could no longer afford to give them what they needed. I didn't expect to have them this long but then again the babies all were a bit of a surprise so I'm making the best of it and enjoying socializing them and making sure they grow up happy and healthy. I'll have to post some new pics soon.

Suzy if you just separated the males and females, then the females need to be on pregnancy watch for the next 112 days or so. Maybe I read your thread wrong, but it sounded like they were together until just now.
Any of them has the potential of being pregnant.

Hi Andrea,
The vet told me that the two females who were pregnant would be ok with the males until just before or at birth and then to remove them to avoid breed back. I sure hope she wasn't wrong? I wasn't provided enough cages sadly to separate all the chins at the time they were rescued. I made due with what I had (even using a few spare cages of my own). It was sure challenging and I sure hope the ones who've recently given birth won't be pregnant again. Roo is the older chin and she was sharing with Cookie who's 14. I checked her daily to see if she showed any signs of being in heat but will certainly have her on pregnancy watch just in case. I didn't see any signs of mating (chasing behavior, loose fur, plug, etc.). I finally saved enough to get a relatively inexpensive cage at the store to move Mickey in so Roo could then move into Mickey & Raisinette's former cage. Roo & Cookie had only been together a few months or so according to their past owner. Roo is taking it pretty hard being alone and I'm going to see if she will at all bond with my female who is about her same age. She seems to be happier with a companion and I hope she will accept a female friend soon.

Just keep in mind that a female can get pregnant the same day she gives birth, if she mates again of course. I have seen a female get pregnant within 36 hours after giving birth. They are very sneaky and fast. Most of the time you won't even see the 'deed' being done.
I'm just giving you a heads up that the births may not be over. I can tell when a chin is pregnant when she is about 5-6 weeks along. Weighing her at that point is one of the best ways to tell and if her appetite increases and she will drink more. Later on she will start to rest more and likely lay on her side the closer she gets.
Hopefully, she was the only one.

Thank you Andrea for the info! I know the chinchilla Amy gave birth 2 days before I rescued her and the other chins. Sadly the owner had left the dad in the same cage so I have no idea if they mated in those two days. She gave birth 9 weeks ago so I will weigh her regularly and keep an eye on her. I wish they had chinchilla pregnancy urine tests. LOL! As for Raisinette, I removed dad within an hour of her giving birth. Let's hope it was in time. I'll watch her over the weeks to come just in case. Roo the older chin I'll also weigh and keep watch. I really hope none of these females will be pregnant again....yikes! One good bit of news....Roo had a wonderful playtime and first introduction to my own pet female chin (9 years old) Cocoa tonight. I couldn't believe how well they got along from the second they first met! Roo has been sulking and not eating as much since she was moved into a cage by herself, so I am hoping this friendship with another female will take off and if all goes well she can move into my Cocoa's chinchilla mansion cage soon and they can both be happier having a friend and snuggle buddy. Just keep in mind that a female can get pregnant the same day she gives birth, if she mates again of course. I have seen a female get pregnant within 36 hours after giving birth.
