Hey all...
This week when I bought my new bird Piper a lady pulled up in a van. she opened the door and I looked in there were BEAUTIFUL dogs, and cats and a rabbit.
This woman was from the Utah Humane society and they visit stores like Petco and petsmart each and every week with these amazing animals.
I have an almost impossible time when I see them I worked for the humane society for 1/2 a year I know the whole scene
the temples in my head would throb when a person with a BRAND NEW SUV would drive up stickers on the window and let their dogs out... out in the street for us to take in as they thought their dogs (who were a pain in their ....) would find better homes.
The truth is ....these dogs were euthanized after 3 months if not adopted.
I have so so so so much trouble with our society , so many people disrespecting, abusing, not caring, ignoring their pets that sometimes I just sit and cry. I cry for the animals who need love, who would blossom with a human companion and like with my bird Jasper an animal with a handicap, or stressed, or disabled who have hearts as big as the moon ...who are misunderstood.
On Lucky's Place we have a group of rescuers who give their time, their heart, their expertise, their days, their money, their homes, their EVERYTHING to save , or to love , or to re-home animals.
Yesterday I was contacted by our dear Marne who has been working for years for a cure for Malocclusion. She is doing what nobody has done...and my friends she had a major success yesterday when Rafi showed no sign of Malo. I am so proud of her..congratulations Marne. You can and are changing the world.
Friends if you have 1 dollar, or 10,000 dollars it doesnt matter ....what you have please consider donating to our member rescuers.
They are my heros..
Let them be your heros
Next month I will begin a member rescue of the month series in this thread next month the rescuer will tell you more about themselves, their history, how they do things... whatever they can share they will not be able to "ask" for donations but I will ask you now please think about our rescue members and give what you can if not money send an old blanket, a toy, a towel, WHATEVER
A LITTLE ...... A LOT is a GREAT THING
I take off my hat to our member rescues Crysta... Spoiled Rotten Chinchillas Andrea ...Forever Feisty Chinchillas Jinna ...... Applewood Rescue Marne............... Finally home chinchilla rescue Whimsy .......... Whimsy Menagerie and chinchilla rescue
and others who arent real active here but we applaud you ..for loving and caring for animals
if you get a moment WRITE THEM HERE or PM and THANK THEM...THANK THEM please it will go a long way!!
my best Jamie

anyone who runs a no kill shelter is amazing especially ones for chins who can have so many problems, thankyou all so much for your hard work. i'm so glad the shelter i volunteer at is no kill as weg et so many awesome animals it would be wrong to put them to sleep just because noone wants them. last week one of our dogs, (a rottweillerX) got adopted after being in our shelter for a year, she had a litter of pups and a life threatening liver problem. but now she is happy, healthy and finally has her new home, in many other shelters she would not have been alive now having been stuck in the shelter for so long and she is an amazing dog and i was so happy for her i cried when i had to sy goodbye. Good luck Xena once again thanx to all that rescue our furry friends

Brrr ... I could never work in a shelter, if I would know they kill the animals there!! At our shelter here, some old dogs lived for YEARS or till they died a natural death - and the keepers do their best to also spend some "pet" time with them. Lately I had a talk with somebody about the differences in the countries and although the man complained about, how many pets are going to the shelters and rescues also here in germany just in Holiday time and that we are also far away from a "perfect" situation here for pets and animals, I at least always have the feeling, that it's a bit better here with stric laws for animal protection, special when I hear about the bad conditions in petshops in USA or those stories like here now again etc. So ... just an idea ... but by chance I once came to a website where people can sign petitions. And since I signed there more often now and made an account to follow the results, I also got an email this week, with the headline: Victory, victory, victory, victory! That's what the emails said (just to show you also examples what was done with those petitions): Best. Week. Ever. Here's what happened in the last seven days, because Change.org members took action:
1) Ai Weiwei released! A petition started by more than 20 directors of the world's most famous art museums turned into an international movement. 140,000 of us joined the campaign, and on Wednesday the Chinese dissident artist was freed. Weiwei's manager says Change.org members were "amazing" and personally thanked you for the support that helped to lead to his release.
2) Women in Saudi Arabia are driving! Saudi women activists won 3 campaigns on Change.org this week: With your help, they got charges dropped against Manal al-Sharif, who was arrested for driving a car in a country where it's illegal for women to do so. After two more petitions targeting Hillary Clinton and Europe's top ambassador Catharine Ashton, both spoke out forcefully in favor of giving women the right to drive (and Hillary says she only took a public stand because of this campaign!).
3) Sled dogs, saved! After a hundred sled dogs were brutally massacred in British Columbia, Lost actor Ian Somerhalder created a campaign on Change.org to get the province to change its policies governing the treatment of animals. More than 67,000 people signed, and British Columbia just adopted the strongest anti-cruelty laws in all of Canada!
4) Grand Canyon, preserved! With a uranium-mining ban about to expire in the area surrounding the famous U.S. landmark, Arizona resident Suzanne Sparling led the charge to extend it. She collected 50,000 public comments from Change.org members, and last Monday, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced his support for another 20-year ban on the dangerous practice.
5) And the Minnesota Twins make 5. To cap it all off, CBS reported on Tuesday that the Minnesota Twins will be the 5th pro baseball team to make an "It Gets Better" video to help prevent suicide by teens who are bullied for being gay. Every team that's made a video (Twins, Red Sox, Cubs, Mariners, and Giants) has done so after a local Change.org member started a petition asking them to. As these victories add up, the cumulative effect is eroding the culture of homophobia in men's pro sports.
We accomplished all this together, but every single campaign began when one person created a petition on Change.org.
Click here to start your own petition now -- our tech team has made it easier than ever.
Let's have another great week.
- Patrick and the Change.org team
P.S. Here's another amazing fact: These are just 5 of the more than 200 campaigns that Change.org members have won in 2011. If there's something you want to change about a policy in your town, a practice by a business, or anything you care about, click here to start your own petition. So, what about, if you guys would start an own petition for better laws for animal protection in USA - for the support of NO-KILL-shelters for example??? This would be your link for this! Jamie? What do you think? www.change.org/start-a-petition?utm_medium=email&utm_source=action_alertI was always between this law-of-attraction knowledge of not giving bad situations too much power in thinking about it too much and the wish to help!! But seems to sign it, forget it and being happy about the results later is working! *lol* Hugs Ilka

Ilka... change.org is a very cool thing and as they say 5 out of 200 isnt bad
May I say my friend...and this that I am posting back to you has nothing to do at all with pride in ones country.. its fact that the USA has some of the strictest laws in the entire world regarding the treatment of animals if you punch a dog and are caught you can go to jail for 6 months
Dogs and cats and exotics are in boarding places that have cable TV, cable and internet radio, choice of music, and private cooks for them.
Pets in this country are spoiled beyond belief and I am one of those people that have spoiled my animals as you know.
I have traveled the globe as you know for 2 decades and have not seen a country anywhere that protects their animals like here we have so many laws on the books concerning the ethical treatment of animals that governments have animal departments
with all that said ... there is a TON of abuse there is a ton of animal testing the FUR INDUSTRY is still legal here (unlike say the UK)
animals are , beaten ,abused and all the rest
and yes maaaaaaaaam there are KILL shelters everywhere the Humane society KILLED over 1.5 million dogs last year
But Ilka... the shelters DID NOT go to these peoples houses and remove their dogs the PEOPLE are the ones Id like to petition against the PEOPLE are the ones mis-handling and giving up their animals the PEOPLE are the ones that buy a pet for Christmas and forget they exist the PEOPLE dont know about the animals they are gonna have, their needs etc (thats why we have this forum ...right?
Lets start a petition against PEOPLE People who dont take care of their animals
there wouldnt be animals in shelters if not for the PEOPLE
there is abuse worldwide cause they dont know PEOPLE like you Ilka, or me or our members
lets get out there and tell PEOPLE lets make music and tell PEOPLE
I of course would always sign a petition against kill shelters count me in
I just wish the people that put their animals in those places could get a new brain.
hugs Jamie

Marne, when it gets hard and seems to tough to handle at times, you just take a look at Rafi and think of all the wonder things you've done for her and all the others.

Mhhh - then I also don't know what to do. When I read about, that they kill animals in shelters in USA and special when I read so often about the bad conditions in your petshops (what I have never seen here) I always thought that must have to do with less strict laws! But well, then we can just continue to educate and to reach peoples hearts! (although it would be great to find a way to give some people a new brain ) Hugs Ilka

such an interesting topic and one we could all make an effort to change as Ilka has indicated
The population of the US last year was 310 million people and other countries like your great country Ilka was about 81 million
its amazing how hard it can be to teach our populations what we know about animals
I even find in my school ...already 4th graders think its funny to shoot a rabbit or whatever..if their fathers are perhaps hunters.
The first day I worked for the Humane Society ,,,they had an orientation class.
In this class they talked alot about euthanizing the animals and they tried to convince me that it was ok...though they wish it werent so (according to them)
They told me if they rescued for example 2 dogs and gave them a field to play in, and tons of toys, and shelter these dogs would DIE approximately 5-8 years before other dogs why? I asked
their answer was our domesticated animals thrive and live cause of human companionship, or to work,(like horses for example) or like house pets. They stressed the point that if they saved every abandoned animal...these animals would die anyway.
I think its a load of bull. They are a government agency...kinda hard to fight.
You know ....its a tough situation this same agency "the Humane Society" tried to make the keeping of all EXOTIC animals completely illegal last year or so They really concentrated on BIRD imports but yes eventually wanted to ban chinchillas, rats, everything that wasnt a dog or cat
The PEOPLE fought the law... lots of people on our forum thought this was a very unfair law
For me... well I think they should have more control over where they get animals certainly should stop puppy mills, and now that chinchillas are popular...chinchilla mills are starting as well ... breeders that just turn out kits like they are water
The Humane society was all over TV talking about how exotics are not being treated well, that they are abused and all the rest
they sure made great points about that...the law failed in the US for now.
its a crazy world I just hope when I die I come back as a pickle, or a guitar, or a rock I would hate to come back as a loving animal and get stuck in the wrong house!!!

Well, everyone dies. That doesn't mean we should go out killing folks off. lol What crazy logic that is.

Oh, sure, dogs will pine away for human companionship even if they have canine companionship?!!! You could fertilize a whole farm with that load!

First of all Well said Jamie - it's PEOPLE that do these horrors! Yes there are laws but as the case with Honey - Marne's little girl - the person that got her rescued won't give up the person doing the horrors. Which I'll bet my last $5 has done it to other animals before and will do it to more animals in the future. The Toronto Humane Society is a no kill shelter (that is where I got Venus from) and it is totally funded from donations because if it takes funding from the gov't it then has to comply with the OSPCA and become a kill shelter. There was a major mother smear campaign about a year ago - anyhow just after I was there and got Venus. Complaints of horrible conditions. I was in that same small animal room they talked about and it was super clean, the animals had big spaces and there was a volunteer there who's job it was just to cuddle these babies. Less than a week later the raid and saying it was in horrible conditions. WHAT? Big props for all the rescues we have on the board here, all the good they do and when we are able if we can just send what we can to them. Big thanks to the various chin supply places here that donate to our rescues too!
