On Monday night, I bought a 6 month old male chinchilla. His name is Dexter it is now Wednesday night and I'm a little concerned. He's been sleeping. A lot. At night and day. He will get up and get active if I wake him up, but will go back to sleep right after I go away. He was housed before with 2 other older female chinchillas there were mean to him. I currently only have him alone. I'm wondering if the sleeping a lot is a concern? He poops and eats and drinks a little, because he's rarely awake. and when he is, he sits in the corner of his cage and hides in his little log. I've had 2 hamster previously, and know how the nocturnal part should look like and he's just been sleeping pretty much all the time. Is he stressed? Or sick? Please help me, I'm very concerned.

The short answer is 2 fold first DO NOT HOUSE your chinchilla (your male) with females You will have babies
Second...yes see a vet. A chinchilla who is not active from dawn to dusk is pretty unusual.
What do you mean by the females were mean to him?
its very possible he has injuries.
Chinchillas are prey animals and are amazing at hiding their injuries and diseases.
