This will be real short.
When Rafi came in Jan 8, she was 408. Her last visit, she was ~460 and was diagnosed with fatty liver (her roots are also overgrown, but she has no dental issues in her mouth due to the Beaphar and the special diet).
We had to take her off most of the diet except the Beaphar, so she gets Botanical Hay (Timothy) instead and Oxbow Cavy Cuisine with the Beaphar. My friend suggested putting Milk Thistle on her pellets, and 6 days later, Rafi had gained 30 grams!
Rafi is 593!
She goes in for her check up tomorrow, please keep your fingers crossed for her. We stopped her trimeth sulfa after a month of giving it to her.
Nadia is also doing well, with her usual weight fluctuations. Her sweet smelling breath is gone, but she is still on the tmz because she has dental surgery tomorrow. Her roots are moderately overgrown (she had no symptoms at all!) and she has a loose tooth (from an abscess, hence the sweet-smelling breath, which we thought was due to liver issues). Tomorrow her tooth should be pulled. I am extremely nervous about this because we don't know her age, and also because the last time a chin went under anesthesia there (Esperanza), she died. So please also keep your fingers crossed for Nadia.

Well, we didn't get to take the girls in today because something has gone wrong with my heart, and so we were up til 8 in the morning taking care of me.
We have called in to the vet and she's calling us tomorrow to set up the new appointments for a blood draw for Nadia and a recheck for Rafi. Rafi is at her highest weight ever, and Nadia is also.
I wanted to also say, Poppy is also at her highest weight ever!

I think I'm ok, but we think I have angina. We have to wait until Monday to call Jewish Family Services to get a good doctor to see for my heart. Thank you guys. I'm trying not to worry, but it's scary. We have rescheduled the girls for next week. We might also bring in Mei-Mei for xrays. She was previously diagnosed with iron deficiency, but something is off. Mei-Mei is our pet, but we did adopt her from a rescue.

Well, I hope that your tests will come out well, Marnie!
I know that when I push myself as hard as you must have to, with all of your babies there, there comes a point, when I simply HAVE to sit down, rest, or sleep.
I have sometimes felt that I may have avoided a heart attack, by listening to that feeling, and going ahead, and resting, when I feel that way.
I hope that the problems you were feeling, are as easy as that to fix.
Hugs, John

Thank you guys. I hope we will get to the bottom of this quickly, that's for sure. We have an appointment for the girls tomorrow! I wanted to post update pictures, I hope you will be amazed. lol Here're Rafi (on the left) and Talia: You can see she is drooling somewhat, but we are getting more tmz for her and Nadia tomorrow: And here is Nadia saying hi! She is a little greasy from being smothered in pets and snuggles, and being weighed. lol

Thank you! I think the food and the milk thistle have helped Rafi tremendously. And the food has helped Nadia as well. I'm so thrilled. It was so weird. I just looked up at Rafi two days ago and thought "holy cow! She is huge!" It seemed to happen that fast. She has been putting on the weight so painfully slowly, a few grams here, a few there. I'm so relieved that she is so big now, I can relax a little and know she will be ok for a while. I am just lucky that they are so trusting and friendly, Nadia drinks her medicine right out of the syringe for me, and Rafi likes to be held to take hers, but she will also drink it out of the syringe for me. It's great when they are so willing.

Great news!
Today we brought Rafi in, and her weight is 507 grams!!! That's her highest weight ever! Her liver is now normal, her teeth look great, she is not drooling, she has no abscess, and so now we just have to work on her teeth roots! Rafi is continuing her current diet (it is a combination of the malo diet we use and the fatty liver diet I am working on). She is also getting 1/2 a capsule of Milk Thistle sprinkled on her pellets every other day as part of the fatty liver diet, because she lives with Talia and we wanted to make sure Rafi was getting it.
Rafi is doing better than we ever dreamed she'd do, we're all excited about it. I'm thrilled that she can live with her mom here, in a safe environment, and also get better and be loved the rest of her life. She is such a sweet girl, I wish you all could meet her.
We also brought Nadia in, and her weight is 423, her second highest weight ever, and her root abscess on the right is gone, but she has a tiny one on the left, so we are going to continue her tmz for another month. Her teeth look better than they had, and she is healthier overall! She did not need blood work, because the vet believes that she will be healed through diet and the tmz, rather than surgery. We are getting x-rays in a month to make sure the infection is gone completely, and we will discuss where to go from there.
Next month we are getting Rafi, Nadia and Poppy x-rayed for part of our routine or whatever, to make sure their roots are all reversing still. In a couple weeks we are bringing Lilith and Mei-Mei (Mei-Mei is our pet, of course) and I expect they will both need x-rays.
The vet is very optimistic about our diets we are using (the malo one and the fatty liver one) and she said she is impressed. She considers them to be successes, because of how greatly the chins have been improving since coming in to our rescue and being placed on the diets. She told us several times that we are doing an amazing job, that Rafi's weight gain is incredible, and other really nice things to hear.
And of course the girls loved it because everyone had to come over and ooh and ahh and tell them how cute they are. lol

Omg Marne you are a chinnie magician!! Food for thought, you should make a dietary list and send it to people with chins suffering from fatty liver and malo, it could possibly change the outlook of so many chins lives and help them live longer and happier. Also you could sale this super secret malo diet recipe to other chin rescues that have chins with malo under their care. That would be cool. -Anna c:
