I have been contacted by a woman in Binghamton, NY who would like to adopt a rescued chin. Does anyone know of a rescue around that area or a chin who is looking for a new home?

Monty's Place is quite a distance from Binghamton. They have always been very limited with the chins they have.
They have been off and on (mostly off) for a very long time (years).
There had been a rescue farther west in NY, but I think they closed a while back too.

Isn't it possible to, for lack of a better word, ship a chinchinlla? I know it would cost a ton of money...but I don't know?

I would never even consider shipping a chin. If they can't be transported in a vehicle, I won't transport them at all.
I have heard of many horror stories of chins dying and suffering a very painful agonizing death when being 'shipped' by plane. The heat and noise in the cargo area of planes is unbearable for animals. I don't know how anyone would ever do that to their furry companion.
Just and FYI: Until just a couple of years ago airlines would list lost or dead animals as luggage!! Not an animal that they killed or lost. There was a dog here in CT just a short time ago that sat in the planes cargo area for hours before the owner demanded they find her dog and she had to be rushed to the vet half dead. The poor dog was dehydrated and in shock. The airline forgot they had a dog on board. It's inhumane.
Some breeders will ship chins, I think it is horrible.

The Toronto Humane Society still has several looking for furever homes if they were considering the area.
