Does anyone know of any rescues in Canada? I'm in Saskatchewan. Would like to rescue a male chin.
Thanks, Lorie

I went on Kijiji and there are loads of them for sale.. None are too close but I'll figure it out. Is it best to go with a younger male for Paco?

Is it best to go with a younger male for Paco? thats a GREAT question the truth is Lorie that its just like you putting an ad in the paper and asking for a roomate you may get along with that person and for a myriad of reasons , you may not no matter what you need to be prepared for 2 cages, 2 play times, but hopefully not We will show you tricks to have them meet and all but young or old you will have to go through intros, dominance issues and hopefully success. It doesnt seem to matter the age really... I had Lucky who was probably 11-14 years old and he accepted all other chinnies ( after tearing Tiki's ear) Furdie was accepted by Tiki after I ended up with 500 dollars worth of laser surgery for his injuries during supervised intros and the new chinchillas that are brothers now in my house ( chewy, Matt and Sage) can NOT live together. I am hoping that neutering the 3 boys will help here , cause I think they are on edge with so many females across the room Like I say ... you really never know Rescue is a wonderful , and beautiful thing I would ask the rescue if you might bring Paco , and see how he reacts to different chinchillas hugs Jamie

Great idea Jamie about taking Paco. He's pretty laid back so I'm sure he'd be ok.

I found a chin for adoption thru NOLA Chinchilla Rescue that I have fallen in love with and just am drawn to adopt him! My heart and soul wants to give him the best home a chin could want (ok so it's not Chile but the next best thing) . For the rest of the chins life I want to make sure he has a lot better home and life than he did before! His name is Chichi and he's so much like Paco. Today we became empty nesters! Our son bought a house and moved today. It just seems right to have another chin and a rescue is the best idea. ❤️

I am very fond of Nola , and its owner was a member here . You probably have seen the nonsense that goes on between chinchilla vendors on facebook, on other forums and sadly NOLA and other rescues that used to be here kinda got into it on the forum eventually they left one at a time... they had more important things to do than to get on a forum and bicker. Remember a few things 1. chinchillas must be introduced slowly and carefully..you will need to learn intro techniques 2. it is recommended to have a 3-4 week quarantine time ( I have never done that,,,Im a bad example) quarantine helps to guarantee that a new chinchilla doesnt bring disease , into the house, to other animals also gets them used to you , the sounds of your house, without the stress of other animals 3. no matter how hard and patient you are , you have to be prepared for 2 cages, 2 play times for 20 years or more there is no guarantee that Paco will accept the new chinnie 4. your relationship with Paco will change,,, he will have a cagemate , someone of his own kind ( many people believe that is ultra important..._It is well known that I agree but also think one chinchilla with someone like you who gives plenty of attention, time and one on one,,,is great too so great that you have your heart open to another chinnie can't wait to see how this progresses hugs Jamie

Many great points to think about! And a couple of points I did not realize. Now I have lots of thinking to do! Which I am doing anyway. I really am drawn to this chin due to his situation etc. I know he could have a great home here. Do I want to do it at Pacos expense? Or will it enrich his life? Jamie she will drive to Chicago, maybe for another rescue, and we will meet her there. It's only about an 18 hr drive. I'd rather do that for a rescue than buy one. Thanks for giving me things to think about! Hugs Lorie
