Yes, many are going to Whimsey, but I spoke with the Montgomery shelter this afternoon and they told me another rescue was taking about 8 (unless they changed their minds).
At least they will get specialty care and not be in a public shelter anymore.

Just wanted to post a quick update.
It's 1:00 in the morning. We just got the chins settled in. Montgomery County Humane did a wonderful job sexing the chins and had them all (26) in two separate cages. We brought them all home, labeled and got base weights on them.
The group is fur chewed and many of them are emaciated. All are standard grey in color and several generations inbred. From what we've seen so far, they're mostly friendly and inquisitive. One is a definate biter though and a couple of them are a bit uptight. Not surprising though considering all they've been through.
The groups are chowing down on pellets, orchard grass and fresh prepared pecan wood. They're all visiting the water bottles like refugees in a desert. Poor little things.
We'll post pictures tomorrow.

Hey everyone. We've posted an update to our main website with pictures of the 26 Montgomery Country surrenders. As we have facility for the whole group, they asked us to just take them all. This is actually a good thing. It will allow us to monitor their behavior and see exactly which of them prefer each other. We have labeled the boys with numbered ear tags and girls with letters. We're already seeing differences in personalities and temperments.

The groups are chowing down on pellets, orchard grass and fresh prepared pecan wood. They're all visiting the water bottles like refugees in a desert. Poor little things. We'll post pictures tomorrow. That just breaks my heart. I went to your site and looked at the pictures of these poor babies and I am glad that you have them and they can finally live the kind of life they deserve. People just make me mad. I would love to put them in poor living conditions and just treat them badly. I just learned that the person I got my chin from has more kits and mine is only 6 months old! He is going to kill the mama and it just makes me angry and I just want to go over there and take his chins away from him so that they can live a great well deserved life and be cared about more than just to breed. My husband has told me several times that I don't need to get as upset and worked up as I do with the way people treat their animals because it is out of my control. That may be but it doesn't change the fact that I want to beat them to a bloody pulp. I have told him on several occasions that I would love to start a no kill shelter so that unwanted animals would never have to be put down because their owner no longer wanted them. I do know some people have good reasons and sometimes no choice in having to give up a pet but then you have people that don't even deserve to touch, or look at a precious animal let alone own one and those are the people I would like to get at. A pet should be a part of your family not a money maker. There are people that go to jail everyday for child abuse and I think it should be the same for animal abuse. Someone has to speak for the animals because they have no voice and can not tell us that they are being mistreated and sometimes it is too late. Even though this is kind of morbid I read an article about a man in another country that had left on vacation for a couple weeks and left several dogs and may or may not have left them food and upon his return the dogs had cannibalized on each other and they ate their owner as well. And if I'm not mistaken they put the dogs down for this and it wasn't even their fault it was the owners. Reading that made me cry that those poor dogs were left like that. I may sound like a cold hearted person but I have no sympathy for the owner getting eaten by his own pets when if he had just made sure someone went by and took care of his dogs it wouldn't have happened. I just don't understand people and some of them anger me so bad. My pets are FAMILY members and would never be treated badly. I will get down off my soap box now...lol but I just had to voice my opinion on this those little chins look like they were poorly taken care of and to bring in 26 OMG! That is just ridiculous but I guess they had the decency to surrender them if that's what you want to call it. I'm happy that they are out of their possession and can now live a life of happiness and be loved and adored as they deserve. Sorry for the rant.

Update: All of the males have been adopted. They went to homes in pairs with one family who kept a group of 4 together. One single had to be separated from the rest because of aggression.
Three of the females have given birth to a total of 5 kits. Many more of the females are showing signs of increased weight gain.
For more information about this group and others, we have pictures and updates on our main website, with more activity on our facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Whimsys-Menagerie-Chinchilla-Rescue/139394082774014).

The pregnancies don't surprise me considering they were all kept together. At least they are getting proper care and won't get pregnant again. Just emphasizes when rescues try to tell people about how keeping mixed pairs together will result in unwanted births and how things can get out of control so quickly. In addition to adding to more homeless chinchillas in this country. It is a serious problem that many people really need to wake up to and stop sugar coating that there is not a homeless crisis with chinchillas. I get contacted all the time to take in chins.....it is really never ending
